Arab nationalist in 1962 (Mudayris, Muslim Brotherhood, 26; Alnajjar 1994). Refused seat in 1967. Opposed making Islam 'the' source of legislation in the 1962 constitutional convention. Resigned as Speaker in 1965 after the assembly defeated the 1964 cabinet, in which his allies had posts.
